The X4 Pro adds a frontlight, colour temperature control, and a touchscreen to the X4 form factor. Follow the checklist first — it covers the key differences new owners miss.

1. What the X4 Pro is (and is not)
The X4 Pro is the same 4.3" e-ink reader as the X4, but with three meaningful additions: a built-in frontlight with adjustable colour temperature, a touchscreen, and a larger 1100 mAh battery. It is not a tablet, it is not a general-purpose device — it is a focused, distraction-free reader that you can now use in the dark.

2. 15-minute checklist — do this first
The X4 Pro has a magnetic charging adapter in the box — you need it for the pogo-pin connection. Keep it somewhere safe.
Locate the magnetic charging adapter in the box and attach it to any USB-C charger or cable.
Charge the X4 Pro for at least 30 minutes via the pogo-pin adapter.
Power on with the power button.
Connect to Wi-Fi (2.4 GHz) in Sync → Network Connection.
Run System Update from the Sync menu and wait until it finishes.
Try the frontlight: adjust brightness and colour temperature to your preference.
Open any book and check that page turns (touch or button) and layout look normal.
3. Charging — the pogo pin
The most important thing to know
The X4 Pro does not charge via USB-C directly. It uses a magnetic pogo-pin connector — the adapter is in the box. One end attaches to the device (magnetically), the other end is USB-C. Keep this adapter safe. Replacements are not always easy to find.
How to charge
- Take the magnetic charging adapter from the box.
- Plug the USB-C end into any charger or computer port.
- Align the magnetic end with the pogo-pin port on the bottom of the X4 Pro — it snaps into place.
- A charging indicator appears on the screen.
Battery life
The 1100 mAh battery is nearly double the X4's 650 mAh. With the light off, expect 14–21 days of typical use. With the frontlight on at moderate brightness, expect significantly less — plan to charge every few days if you read with the light on regularly.
Power and sleep basics
- Long-press the power button to power on or off.
- Short-press or tap the screen to wake from sleep.
- The frontlight turns off when the device sleeps — this is expected.
4. Frontlight and colour temperature
The frontlight is the defining feature of the X4 Pro. It lets you read in any lighting condition — from a dark bedroom to a bright café.
Brightness
You can adjust the brightness of the light. For most reading sessions a low-to-medium setting is comfortable; very high brightness drains the battery faster and is rarely needed except in direct sunlight.
Tip — start at around 30% brightness. Your eyes adapt quickly, and lower settings are easier on the battery.
Colour temperature
The colour temperature control shifts the light between cool blue-white and warm amber. This is useful in two situations:
- Evening reading — shift towards warm amber to reduce blue light and help you wind down.
- Daytime / outdoor — cool white is crisper in bright conditions.
Many owners set a warm temperature for evening reading in bed and never touch it again. Find a setting that feels natural and leave it.
Light and e-ink
E-ink screens look great even without the light. The X4 Pro's screen is identical to the X4 at 219 PPI — the frontlight does not change the resolution or sharpness of the text, it only makes it readable in dim conditions.
5. Touch and buttons
The X4 Pro has a touchscreen and two physical buttons. You can use either — they are complementary, not alternatives.

Which input to use?
In bed or low-light situations, the touch tap is fast and natural. When reading one-handed on the go, the physical Pageturn button is more reliable. Most owners use both depending on context.
The touch on an e-ink screen is slightly slower than on a phone — expect a short refresh delay between tap and page turn. This is normal for e-ink technology, not a defect.
6. Connect to Wi-Fi and update the firmware
Update on day one. It fixes bugs, improves layout, and can add features. The X4 Pro is a 2026 device — make sure it has the latest firmware before spending time configuring it.
July 2026 update
The latest stock firmware adds 15+ system and reading languages, improved italic rendering, better hyphenation, up to 100 bookmarks, and better battery efficiency. Update via Settings → Update.
Connect to Wi-Fi (2.4 GHz only)
- Go to Sync → Network Connection.
- Select your Wi-Fi network (2.4 GHz; 5 GHz may not appear).
- Enter your password and wait for confirmation.
Run System Update
- Go to Sync → System Update.
- Tap Check for updates.
- Start the update and leave the device alone until it reaches 100%.
- Do not disconnect the charger during the update.
7. Adding your first books
Same as every Xteink: two methods, microSD (most reliable) and Wi-Fi hotspot (convenient on the go). The X4 Pro ships with a 16 GB microSD card — it's already inserted.
Supported formats
- EPUB — best for ebooks
- TXT in UTF-8 encoding
- JPG/BMP for wallpapers (480×800 px)
Method 1 — microSD card (recommended)
- Power off or put the device to sleep.
- Eject the microSD card and insert it into your computer.
- Copy your EPUB/TXT files into folders.
- Safely eject and re-insert into the device.
Method 2 — Wi-Fi hotspot
- Go to Sync → Wi-Fi Hotspot and enable it.
- Connect your phone or laptop to the displayed network.
- Open a browser and navigate to the IP shown on the device (often
192.168.3.3). - Upload files via the web interface.
8. Stock firmware vs CrossPoint

9. Common issues and quick fixes
The pogo-pin adapter isn't charging
Make sure the magnetic end is fully snapped onto the contacts on the bottom of the device. If it seems loose, try rotating the adapter 180° — the magnets align in both orientations but only one completes the circuit correctly.
Frontlight is on but the screen is hard to read
Try adjusting colour temperature first, then brightness. Very warm amber light in a bright room can feel dim. Cool white is more legible in daylight.
Touch is sluggish or unresponsive
E-ink touch is slower than a phone by design. If touch seems unresponsive rather than slow, try a firmware update or a hard reset (long-press power).
Device frozen or unresponsive
Plug into the pogo-pin charger for 10–15 minutes. Long-press the power button for a hard reset. Remove the microSD card and try again.
Wi-Fi not connecting
Make sure you're on 2.4 GHz. Move closer to the router. Restart both the router and the device.
10. Quick FAQ
Can I charge the X4 Pro with a regular USB-C cable?
Not directly. You need the magnetic pogo-pin adapter included in the box. The adapter itself has a standard USB-C end, so you can use any USB-C charger with it.
Does the light affect battery life significantly?
Yes. The 1100 mAh battery is much larger than the X4's, but the frontlight draws power. At low brightness it's modest; at high brightness it noticeably shortens the time between charges.
Does it support Kindle books?
No. EPUB and TXT only. No DRM-protected formats, no AZW.
Is the screen the same as the X4?
Same size (4.3"), same resolution (480×800), same density (219 PPI). The frontlight is the main visual difference.
Can I use it one-handed?
Yes. The Pageturn buttons let you flip pages with one hand. The touchscreen works but requires placing the device on a surface or holding it with two hands to tap reliably.
