Duet is early-alpha, open-source firmware for the Xteink X3 and X4, built for readers who want far more from these tiny devices. It builds on CrossInk and CrossPoint and adds a large-library cover experience with 2x2, 3x3, and 4x4 grids, a five-cover carousel, title/author/series autocomplete, catalog-backed More Info, deep reading analytics across 33 pages, customizable Home dashboards, 108 achievements, StarDict dictionaries, 123 optional font families in six sizes, and direct X3/X4 position and reading-statistics sync without a server account.
Duet is a one-person project created, directed, and physically tested by myself, with coding assistance from Codex and Claude and full credit to the open-source projects it builds on. It is already useful on Lauren's own X3 and X4, but it is still an early alpha. Back up your SD card, keep a rollback BIN, and expect other libraries and devices to uncover rough edges. Testers, bug reports, accessibility feedback, documentation corrections, and developer contributions are genuinely welcome.
