KOReader Software Support
Enable support for KOReader software to unlock advanced reading features, customization options, and better format compatibility.
Opensource the software
By opensourcing the software, the community can help unlock the full potential of the device far quicker.
Display Battery percentage
Display battery percentage in Menu or status bar
Easy Built-in Font Switching
Add native font switching capability directly on the device, eliminating the need for external conversion tools or complex workarounds.
Built-in Frontlight for Dark Reading
Add a built-in frontlight to enable comfortable reading in the dark without requiring external accessories or lamps.
Advanced ePub format
Add enhanced EPUB format support to ensure better display of chapters, formatting, and compatibility with popular ebook standards.
Left-Aligned Text Option for English Books
Provide an option for left-aligned text in English books instead of forced justification, which causes poor spacing and readability issues.
Support Italics and bold
The x4 should be able to show simple standart text formatting
USB Mass Storage Access to Internal SD Card
When the XTEINK X4 is connected to a computer via USB-C, the device should expose its internal SD card as a standard USB mass-storage drive. This allows users to easily browse, copy, delete, and transfer files directly from Windows, macOS, or Linux without removing the card or relying on third-party tools. It simplifies content management, improves workflow efficiency, and aligns with common e-reader behavior found in competing devices.
Sync with KOReader
While full KOReader may not be feasible, it would be helpful to sync reading progress with KOReader Sync Server (https://github.com/koreader/koreader-sync-server).
Adding PDF files
Support additional file formats such as PDF to expand versatility for different reading materials.
Comic Book support
Add support for common comic books file formats cbr and cbz.
Recognize two quick successive key presses
Right now the second keypress is lost
BLE text file upload
I'm not sure if it's technically possible, but uploading a simple text file via BLE (Bluetooth) to the X4 would be perfect. I use it mainly for reading short text files, and since text files aren't large, they should be transferable over BLE. A companion smartphone app would likely be needed. The device is awesome btw.
Add support for keyboard and simple word editor
I can imagine using this as a mini writer deck and that would be so cool!
Put device on sleep
Short press of power button puts the device on sleep mode.
PDF Support
I would love it if PDF support was a thing on this ereader. That would be helpful, because I can't get epubs working, also side note, accidentally submitted a warning on a similar post, please disregard that warning
Clock on cover
option to let clock show on cover screen instead albumart.
arabic (right to left)
adding support for reading arabic epub the problem is in right to left rendering
Swedish letter support
Support for the three letters extra in Swedish language "åÅäÄöÖ".
LCP support
This is very much a longshot, but if the X4 can support LCP DRM that would be an absolute game changer. With Adobe sunsetting the .ACSM protocol, a lot of libraries and booksellers are moving to LCP files so if the X4 could natively open them that would be amazing
Transparent Sleep Wallpaper Support
There should be a way to use images without a background as sleep screens so that I can see the page I was reading behind the image. This allows for a lot of clever and fun designs that can be overlaid for an even more personalized experience
Readest support/combo
Readest all is glorious. If somehow both teams could make the app work on the xteink device is would be fantastic and a winning combination.
